Solo travel, Type 1 diabetes and severe allergies — honest stories, practical guides and the things I wish I knew before backpacking Southeast Asia.
About me
I booked a one-way flight to Bangkok anyway.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 20 and already lived with severe peanut and shellfish allergies. For five years the idea of travelling terrified me. Even though I had a passion for experiencing different cultures, people and places, my Type 1 and my allergies made achieving this goal feel impossible to reach.
After finishing my master’s in psychology I began to gain confidence in managing my condition and felt confident enough to book a one-way ticket to Bangkok, alone. Underwhelmed by the lack of information online about long-term travel and diabetes or allergies, I decided to document my journey, sharing every mistake, lesson and chaotic moment along the way.
